UPDATE: Raiders’ Snowden Was Busted for DUI Because He Passed Out Behind Wheel

UPDATE: According to the arrest report obtained by TMZ Sports, Las Vegas Raiders defensive lineman wasn’t actually pulled over for DUI on Tuesday. That’s because police found him found passed out behind the wheel of his still-running 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Not only that, Vegas police wrote in the report, but his SUV was parked where it had “almost rolled off a four foot retaining wheel.”

In addition, the cops reported banging on his windows to awaken him several times, but that he would “fall back asleep” repeatedly. After about 10 minutes, according to the report, he finally got up, then turned off and exited his vehicle, at which point officers noted that he smelled from alcohol and had trouble balancing.

The only comment the Raiders have made so far was to say that they “will not comment further as this is a legal matter.”

Snowden is due in court for arraignment on Tuesday.

Snowden was booked into the Clark County Detention Center and released, according to KLAS-TV/Las Vegas, which broke the story Wednesday night.

Snowden wasn’t required to appear in court after his arrest or to post bond, nor did he have a probable cause hearing before his release or a scheduled arraignment.

According to Nevada law, individuals found guilty of the offense with which he is charged could face up to six months in prison. Additionally, if Snowden is found to have been driving with an alcohol concentration of 0.18% or higher in his blood or breath, a treatment program is mandated.

Las Vegas police stopped Snowden, 26, after receiving a report about a suspicious vehicle. His alcohol concentration hasn’t yet been reported.

Snowden, who most recently played in last Sunday’s game against Tampa Bay in Florida, is in his second season with the Raiders. He entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2021, spending time with practice squads for the Chicago Bears and Tampa Bay Buccaneers before signing with the Raiders’ squad last December.

He made his Raiders debut this season, playing in all 13 games, with seven starts, 30 tackles, and 1.5 sacks.

Uncertain Future

Snowden’s future with the organization is now a question mark. It is not known whether he participated in the Raider’s walkthrough on Wednesday, which was closed to the media. The Raiders aren’t responding to requests for comment.

Last year, the Raiders cut safety Roderic Teamer one day after his DUI arrest. This was considered a stern rebuke for the drunk driving with which the franchise has had an unfortunate recent history.

In November 2021, first-round Raiders draft pick Henry Ruggs killed 23-year-old Tina Tintor and her dog while driving drunk on a Las Vegas surface street, on which he reached a speed of up to 156 mph. He is currently serving 3-10 years in prison.

Las Vegas Raiders Fire Head Coach Josh McDaniels After 3-5 Start

The Las Vegas Raiders cleaned house late on Tuesday evening when they fired head coach Josh McDaniels, general manager Dave Ziegler, and offensive coordinator Mick Lombardi.

The Raiders are 3-5 and currently tied for last place in the AFC West. They were 3-3 before they lost two games in a row, including a 30-12 loss against the Chicago Bears in Week 7. Their most recent loss occurred on “Monday Night Football” in a 26-14 defeat against the Detroit Lions.

After much thought about what the Raiders need to move forward, I have decided to part ways with Josh and Dave,” said owner Mark Davis in an official statement. “I want to thank them both for their hard work and wish them and their families nothing but the best.”

Antonio Pierce will take over as the interim head coach after spending the start of this season as the linebackers coach. Champ Kelly was the assistant GM under Ziegler, and he was promoted to general manager for the remainder of the season.

Pierce becomes the 12th head coach for the Raiders since they last won a playoff game as the Oakland Raiders in 2002. This also marks the fourth time since 2008 that the Raiders switched head coaches in the middle of a season.

McDaniels Sacked After 25 Games

McDaniels had a six-year contract with the Raiders, and he lasted only 25 games before they fired him. He has a 9-16 record since taking over in 2022.

The Raiders went 6-11 in their first season under McDaniels, which was a disappointment considering he inherited a 10-7 team that qualified for the playoffs. The Raiders parted ways with quarterback Derek Carr and signed Jimmy Garoppolo in free agency this offseason.

After Week 3, McDaniels emerged as the betting favorite to become the first head coach to lose his job this season.

McDaniels has now lost two head coaching jobs when he was let go midway through his second season. McDaniels went 11-17 with the Denver Broncos during his first stint as a head coach. He lasted 28 games before the Broncos fired him in 2010.

Davis indicated he will seek a new head coach and general manager in the offseason. Potential head coaching candidates include Brian Flores, Jim Harbaugh, Dan Quinn, and Raheem Morris.

Raiders Plagued by Offensive Woes

McDaniels won six Super Bowls as a coach under Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots. He was the offensive coordinator of the Patriots when the Raiders hired him in hopes that he could bring his winning offensive philosophy to Las Vegas.

The Raiders compete in a high-scoring division with gunslinger quarterbacks like Patrick Mahomes from the Kansas City Chiefs and Justin Herbert from the Las Angeles Chargers. However, McDaniels failed to deliver a team that could challenge their divisional rivals.

The Raiders won three games in 2023, but all three victories were close games and decided by nine total points. They never won a game by more than four points. They averaged 14.2 points per game in their losses.

The Raiders’ downtrodden offense averaged 15.8 points per game and they were the third-worst scoring team in the NFL this season under McDaniels. The offense generated only 268.3 yards per game, which was the second-lowest in the NFL.

The Raiders have the worst rushing team in the NFL this season. Their paltry rushing attack averages only 70 yards per game, and that’s even after running back Josh Jacobs ended a contract holdout.

Betting the Raiders the Rest of the Season

The Raiders are currently tied with the Denver Broncos (3-5) for last place in the AFC West. Oddsmakers didn’t have much faith in the Raiders this season, which is why they had a projected win total of only 6.5 over/under.

The Raiders are +1200 odds to make the playoffs, according to a prop bet at DraftKings. They’re a huge favorite to miss the playoffs at -3000 odds.

The Chiefs are tied for the best record in the AFC at 6-2 thanks to their good-luck charm, Taylor Swift. The Chiefs are -700 odds to win the AFC West for an eighth-consecutive season.

During the preseason, the Raiders were +1200 odds to win the AFC West. After they started 3-5, their divisional odds dropped to +4000.

The Raiders play their next two games at home in Sin City. They host the New York Giants in Week 9, and square off against New York Jets on “Sunday Night Football” in Week 10.

The Raiders are a slight favorite at -1 against the Giants. Quarterback Daniel Jones missed three games with a neck injury and he’s expected to return versus the Raiders.

The Raiders have a 3-5 record against the point spread (ATS) this season. The Giants are 2-5-1 ATS.

boyd_elixir_las_vegas_locals_and_raiders_sponsorshipBoyd Gaming has used digital to enhance its land-based operations in recent years. The Las Vegas (Paradise) Nevada-based company is still owned by family members of founder Sam Boyd who opened his first casino in 1975.

The last week has revealed success in the company’s focus on local Las Vegas gamblers through properties such as the iconic Fremont Hotel & Casino located Downtown in the heart of the Fremont Street Experience and other locals-friendly venues like Gold Coast, Main Street Station, and Sam’s Town.

The company posted Q4 2022 revenues of $922.9m, beating out its $879.8m take for the same quarter last year. The Las Vegas locals market drove the earnings. Net income was up more than 57% with fourth-quarter earnings of $172.7m compared to $109.8m for the fourth quarter of 2021.

Digital Growth Supports Land-based Sector

Keith Smith focused on future earnings opportunities in a recent investor call saying that the company will continue with a strategy of increasing growth in the digital sector in order to further support the land-based casinos.

We took an important step forward in our online growth strategy with our recent acquisition of Pala Interactive, which gives us the talent and technology to begin building our regional online casino business,” Smith said.

While online casinos are now limited to just a few states, we believe in the long-term potential from igaming. Owning and operating our own igaming operation will allow us to leverage our nationwide portfolio and extensive customer database to create a profitable online casino business,” he added.

Total Boyd Gaming revenue for the year was up 3.8% to $3.56b, outshining the company’s previous record of $3.70b.

While gaming costs were up and revenue was down slightly, the company more than made up for it in other metrics including food and beverage revenue up 20%, rooms revenue rose 22.7%, and other revenue was up 48.2%.

Focusing on continued organic growth, Smith said: “While the opportunities from online and land-based reinvestments are compelling, we also believe there is upside from continued organic growth in our existing operations, particularly in hotel revenues, meeting, and convention business, and other non-gaming revenues,” Smith said.
