Spanish Gaming News: RAW iGaming Slot, Cirsa Bonds, Slingo

spanish_gaming_news_raw_igaming_slot_cirsa_bonds_slingoIn this consolidated geo-report, we’ll take a look at RAW iGaming of Malaga’s new innovative game engine that expands the company’s repertoire of chame-changing slots mechanics – but when does a game without spinning reels in slots with reel strips of symbols stop being a slot at all and become something else altogether? We’ll leave that question for the reader to explore.

We also delve into the business end of things with the Blackstone-owned Spanish gaming giant Cirsa’s recent major bond launch worth €650 million (US$700m+) that the company plans to use in order to pay down some of its debt.

And finally, back to gaming for the people with the announcement that SkillOnNet has launched Slingo games, a popular hybrid of slots and bingo, in the Spanish market through PlayUZU and more than two dozen other Spain-facing casinos it owns or services with content.

RAW iGaming Rolls out SuperSymbols Mechanic

The RAW Group’s in-house studio RAW iGaming has released another game-changer to go along with its innovative boredom-killing mechanics, SuperSlice, SuperTracks, and SuperStretch. The new way to play online slots is called SuperSymbols.

With this mechanic, adjacent matching symbols in groups consisting of at least 2×2 icons will merge to form larger shapes for bigger payouts that expand when matched symbols land next to the SuperSYmbol.

Pay is based on pixel count so in a nutshell, the bigger the symbol, the higher the payout! The concept is easy to see and understand even on a small handheld device and gives players another brand-new way to experience gameplay.

SuperSymbols, however, are not a stand-alone phenomenon inside the games they reside in, they can also be combined with additional bonus features like progressive multipliers, cascading symbols, free spins, and more. Players will find the new mechanic debuting in Mighty Buffalo SuperSymbols, the company’s most recent release, and should appear next in the upcoming Raging Super2Ways.which is expected to be launched soon

Slowly but surely, RAW is rewriting the history books on how games can be played online and how wins are paid out.

The company’s first major mechanical innovation was the SuperSlice engine. This innovation uses slices of a wheel rather than reel strips with symbols to match whilst the SuperTracks® engine uses tracks or pathways to illustrate wins.

RAW Group,’s CEO, Tom Wood said the company’s commitment bring players new experiences and disrupting the “status quo” with innovations such as these is what has helped the company become seen as a “must-have” developer for major online gaming operators around the world.

At RAW, we see ourselves as a pink shark in the sea of sameness and go to great lengths to develop new player experiences through thrilling mechanics. SuperSymbols is a great addition to our roster of mechanics, especially because it is so easy to understand which is not always the case with next-gen mechanics.

“It is features such as this that have allowed us to stand out not through novelty but through delivering engaging and compelling experiences that players actually enjoy. SuperSymbols™ will appear in some truly incredible games over the coming months and we look forward to players seeing the symbols merge and expand and the big wins land.”

Cirsa holds $700m Bond Sale to Redeem 2018 Bond Issue

Spanish gaming giant Cirsa reportedly planned to offer up nearly a billion dollars in bonds recently that come due this year. The tranch would redeem all senior guaranteed bonds issued in 2018 carrying a 6.25% interest rate, according to CDC Gaming Reports.

Floating rate notes, that come due in 2025 would also be paid down if the entire sale is successful. Unpaid interest and expenses accrued across both vehicles would also be paid down. Barclays, Credit Suisse, and Deutsche Bank were among the banks mentioned in leading the placement. Other financial institutions testing the waters for investor interest and helping to determine pricing included BBVA, Jefferies, and UBS. The new bonds would expire in 2028 as envisioned in the company’s announcement.

The company’s last placement, in October 2022 yielded more interest than expected and resulted in a better price than Blackstone had anticipated for the vehicles with US$462 million worth of notes entering the market even though advisors had only anticipated US$380.5 million. Those bonds are set to mature in 2027 and were picked up by more than 70 different investors worldwide.

The company had a good year in 2022, finally pulling away from a mostly Covid-caused downward swing, posting an operating income of US$1.9 billion and closing out the year with operating profits of US$600.7 million. Slots were the company’s biggest income producer with casino kicking in US$267.47 million EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization).

Coming in at number three in the income generator race to the top was Gaming which increased about 80% to hit a quarter of a billion dollars for the company. Once Cirsa got on a roll things just kept looking brighter and brighter for it with a Q! 2023 increase in operating income of over half a billion in US Dollars or 29.2% in pp over the first quarter of the previous year. Profits tripled on that volume to a bit over twenty-million dollars.

Cirsa continues its global acquisition strategy by springing for a new casino in Mexico as well as a land-based gaming operator and online sportsbook in Italy – all counted in the 2022 growth numbers along with consummations that occurred in toto in 2022 like a Moroccan casino (Tangiers), a majority stake in E-Play24 (Italy) and Mexico’s fifth largest online sportsbook, Ganabet.

Blackstone acquired Cirsa in 2018 for about half of what the company was appraised for earlier in May when the private equity firm shopped Cirsa as an IPO in May. However, there don’t seem to be any plans to activate the public offering further due to instability, volatility, and turbulence in the international banking space that has not settled out completely due to various factors that many investors still see as being in play. However, some observers and analysts expect the turbulence and fallout from the Credit Suisse and Silicon Valley Bank deflations to settle out and for the IPO to go forward before the start of 2024.

SkillOnNet Spain Network Launches Slingo!

Spain hosts over 3,000 gaming salons and bingo halls with major companies like Zitro and IGT found in many or all of them. With that as background, it then comes as no surprise that a global online provider such as SkillOnNet with over 30 online casinos operating in the country would decide to offer Slingo games there, especially at its flagship PlayUZU site – a brand that has become almost a kitchen-table name in Spain.

Slingo games are about fun and fusion and are unique in their mechanics, offering a sort of hybrid model of bingo and slots in a single game. Some of the most popular titles worldwide include Slingo Extreme and Slingo Rainbow Riches. Spanish players will now find those titles as well as branded games like Slingo Monopoly and Slingo Deal or No Deal at their favorite SkillOnNet online casinos.

SkillOnNet casinos are also found in other realms such as the UK and increasingly across the whole of Europe including Germany and Portugal.

SkillOnNet’s Head of Games, Jani Kontturi recently said in a prepared statement that Slingo has been a “smash hit” in every new market the company has introduced them in and is confident the same will be the case with Spain.

He continued, “Most of all, we’re excited that games that revolutionized the online casino space almost 30 years ago are finally coming to Spain. When it comes to fusing bingo, slots, and social gaming, Slingo is the original and still the best.”

Gaming Realms is the intellectual property owner of the Slingo brand. The company’s Ian Ribson said of the partnership: “We are thrilled to be building upon our successful partnership with SkillOnNet by launching our high-quality titles with them alongside Slingo.es. Already proving a triumph across other jurisdictions such as the UK, Slingo.es will offer players a familiar platform to enjoy a variety of verticals and games on.

The Spanish market has provided the Slingo brand with an immense amount of growth in recent years and launching our advanced platform there, whilst simultaneously offering even more places to enjoy our portfolio, will allow both new and existing players to become more familiar with our offering.”

Slingo was also recently launched in Portugal and Spain at GoldenPark.

Karim Benzema leads Real Madrid towards Championship Trophies in both European Cup & Spanish League

karim_benzema_leads_real_madrid_towards_championship_trophies_in_both_european_cup_and_spanish_leagueLately, Karim Benzema has been hitting on all cylinders just at the right time as Real Madrid continues to strive towards winning both the European Cup as well as the Spanish League trophy.

Plagued by Minor Injuries

Unfortunately, the Ballon d’Or winner in Benzema has been dealing with successions of minor or little injuries throughout this professional football season. Including an injury that managed to keep Karim from playing for the national club of France during their run to the 2022 World Cup final from Qatar.

The highly – skilled 35 – year – old forward is now once again seeming to be mostly healthy and Benzema is starting to play up to his potential as one of the best players in European professional football as Real Madrid prepares to make a serious run at 2 – major football championship titles.

Karim Benzema Scores on Barca!

Benzema managed to net a goal during the 2nd – half hat trick in order to lead Real Madrid over Barcelona with a final tally of 4 to 0 on Wednesday, April 5th, 2023 which put his club team into the Copa del Rey final for the very 1st – time since the year of 2014.

Real Madrid is all set up now to face – off against Chelsea next week during the upcoming Champions League quarterfinals as they attempt to defend their championship title, and if they do come out victorious with a huge win it would become a record – extending 15th – European Cup trophy they would be hoisting.

Karim was named football’s best male player due to his remarkable 2021 – 2022 campaign in which he has only played a total of 31 out of Real Madrid’s 45 – games throughout all competitions this season all based upon the minor injuries he has endured lately. He has been effective as ever when fully healthy, especially in key contests in the Champions League as well as the Copa del Rey.

Benzema popped in 3 – goals during Real Madrid’s 6 to 2 aggregate victory over Liverpool in the round of 16 of the Champions League. Following Karim being left off of France’s national team for the recent European Championship qualifying matches, the supreme striker has now scored back – to – back hat tricks for the Real Madrid football club. He pushed pass 3 – goals in a range of just 7 – minutes during a 6 to nil rout of Valladolid in the Spanish League only 3 – days prior to his hat trick at Camp Nou. Benzema is on fire right now, and he is exemplifying why he is still one of the best goal scorers in the world at the moment.

“The work during the (international) break has certainly helped him,” the head coach of Real Madrid, Carlo Ancelotti, expressed. “He’s found his best condition and with the quality he has, he makes a difference for sure. He’s still one of the best players in the world at the moment and when he’s in good shape he makes a difference.”

The Strategy of Coach Carlo Ancelotti

Coach Ancelotti may possibly be lured to rest Karim or potentially other regular starters on Saturday, April 8th, 2023 when Real Madrid hosts Villarreal in a Spanish League match prior to battling Chelsea on the following Wednesday.

Ancelotti defeated Barcelona’s counterpart in Xavi Hernández through the play of his attack – minded strategy that started 11 with Benzema accompanied by the Brazilian forwards of Vinícius Júnior and Rodrygo.

The Italian head coach of Real Madrid also chose to go without a stopper in the midfield as he opted to go with the passing of Luka Modric as well as Toni Kroos to accommodate the lightning – fast speed of Federico Valverde.

To be fair, Xavi had many fewer options available to him because Pedri, Ousmane Dembélé, Frenkie de Jong, and Andreas Christensen were all out die to various injuries. This may be the main reason of the ultimate inevitable result demonstrating Real Madrid’s biggest victory at Barcelona’s home stadium since their 5 to 1 victory way back in 1963.

“His numbers say it all,” the defender for Real Madrid, Dani Carvajal, stated in regards to Karim Benzema. “He was hugely important for us again and we’re thrilled to have him in this vein of form at this stage of the season because he can give us lots to smile about.”

In the meantime, Real Madrid will now have to heavily – focus on the Champions League title with Barcelona presently being up a solid 12 – points ahead of Madrid at the top of the Spanish League standings.

“We played against a great Real Madrid team,” Xavi Hernández explained. This was a tough night that will take us time to recover from, but we have to be positive and think about Girona and the league.”

Betsoft Deepens Spanish Ties with Casino777, Codere NGR up 48%

betsoft_deepens_spanish_ties_with_casino777_codere_ngr_up_48pctBetsoft, known the world over for its 3D slots hosted by endearing characters, has strengthened in presence in Spain with top-tier operator Casino777.es while Madrid (Alcobendas) based Codere Online is reporting Q4 and full-year results for 2022 were “better than expected” as negative cash flow continues to throttle its bottom line.

Betsoft, launched in 2008 presents an ever-expanding global footprint as it continues service in some unregulated markets such as the U.S. The company successfully completed two ISMS audits in 2020 – opening the door to operate in Spain as well as in the Latin American country of Colombia.

Solidifying Existing Spanish Footprint

In the last couple of years, it has inked deals with well-known and lesser-known Spanish operators including Paf, Tonybet, Retabet, and Versus. Its most recent distribution deal is with the tier-one operator, Casino777.es.

Casino777.es is owned and operated by Digital Distribution Management Ibérica, and licensed by the DGOJ (Dirección General de Ordenación de Juego) since its launch in 2015. Some of the operator’s claims to fame include top-notch customer service, an efficient payment system, a progressive games portfolio, and ongoing promotions.

In addition to a casino component including live dealer games, the site also offers full-service sports betting.

While Betsoft has successfully integrated its games around the world, it’s gone a step further to better serve the Spanish market by translating some of its most popular games into Spanish. Take the Kingdom, Return to Paris, and Thai Blossoms are among the translated titles.

The Spanish iGaming market is significant for us and one we take very seriously,” said Betsoft Gaming head of account management Anastasia Bauer. “We are delighted to be partnering with Casino777.es as they are a key operator in the country. We are looking forward to a successful relationship.”

Casino777.es manager for Spain, César Paredes García added: “We are very much an experiential operator. Delivering first-class entertainment is our core skill and so working with providers of Betsoft’s caliber is essential for us going forward. We anticipate a very positive future relationship.”

Codere Online Revenue Up, Still Bleeding Cash

Luxembourg-owned and Madrid-headquartered Codere Online has reported “better than expected” fourth-quarter results with the entire year of 2022 bringing in net gaming revenue of €122.9m – 48% more than the prior year. Unfortunately, the Grupo Codere subsidiary experienced a negative cash flow of €46.m.

Outgoing CEO of the online Spanish-language operator, Moshe Edree commented: “We are reporting better than expected Q4 and full year 2022 performance. This success is a testament to our team’s dedication and focus on delivering an unparalleled online gaming experience for our customers.”

Edree handed the reigns of the online division to COO, Aviv Sher on March 1 but will stay on as executive vice-chairman of the board.

Edree focused on net gaming revenue when he said the “effectiveness of our growth strategy and our ability to successfully deploy marketing spend” across all of the company’s Spanish-speaking markets were responsible for the successful NGR numbers.

We are pleased to have exceeded our 2022 net gaming revenue outlook of €115m to €120m and follow through on our commitment to investors,” added CFO Oscar Iglesias.

The company is in a constant state of improvement as it repositions itself for the present and the future. One such change just before the new year saw the company offload its Italian division.

Spain and Mexico Growth Markets

The company saw a 70% increase in NGR in the final quarter of the year with customers in Spain and Mexico contributing solidly. The increased revenue may be tied directly to marketing expenditures which more than doubled over 2021 numbers at €31.2m for 2022 – directly affecting both ends of the books.

While the subsidiary did see a net loss of €45.9m for the year, it was a major improvement over the prior year when it booked a loss of €68.0m in 2021.

The company projects a continued narrowing of losses estimated to be no more than -€30m for 2023 with net revenue of no less than €140m.

Codere Online will establish an important presence in Argentina in the coming year with a planned launch in Córdoba as it continues its pursuit of licenses in Mendoza and Buenos Aires.

We continue to be very excited about the future and the opportunities that lie ahead, particularly in Argentina, where we are making significant progress towards starting operations in several new regions this year,” Iglesias said. “We are confident in our ability to execute on our plans and continue delivering sustainable growth for our shareholders.”
