Preparatory Demolition Has Begun ahead of Planned Trump Plaza Implosion

Preparatory work for the demolition of the former Trump Plaza casino in Atlantic City has begun, but City Mayor Marty Small Sr. said earlier this week that a final timeline for the removal of what he had called earlier “the biggest eyesore in town” is still being worked out.

A demolition crew from Philadelphia-based demolition services firm Haines & Kibblehouse has brought equipment on the 10.5 acre site of the shuttered Trump Plaza and workers have begun gutting the property’s interior and taking down portions of the main building.

Both towers of Trump Plaza will eventually be imploded, but the site needs to be prepared for the implosion.

Trump Plaza opened doors back in 1984 to become one of Atlantic City’s most iconic hotel-casino resorts. As its name suggests, it was originally owned by US President Donald Trump. The property closed doors for good in September 2014. It was one of four Atlantic City casinos to shutter that year.

Trump Plaza was purchased by New York activist investor Carl Icahn in 2016. The once glitzy resort was supposed to be demolished in the fall of 2018, but that apparently did not happen.

During his unofficial State of the City address in January, Mayor Small said that he wanted to see Trump Plaza torn down and that the shuttered resort was an “embarrassment” and the “biggest eyesore in town.”

In March, Mayor Small’s administration sought a court order for the demolition of Trump Plaza and a month later a Superior Court Judge ordered to IEP AC Plaza LLC, a subsidiary of Mr. Icahn’s Icahn Enterprises, to present a demolition plan within 45 days.

Trump Plaza Will Possibly Be Imploded by Mid-2021

As mentioned above, Mayor Small said this week that the demolition timeline is still being worked out. Atlantic City’s top official said previously that he wanted the property imploded by February 2021. However, Mr. Icahn has submitted plans according to which the former casino resort would be torn down by June.

City leaders said that bringing the property down later than February would be unacceptable because the implosion could thus fall during the busy summer tourist vacations season and there would not be enough time for cleanup.

The demolition cost is, too, yet to be announced. Originally, the process was estimated to cost around $14 million. However, Mayor Small said earlier this year he expected the cost to go up as initial demolition plans had involved the implosion of the main tower only. Mr. Icahn’s plan now includes the resort’s east tower, as well.

The city hopes that once demolished the property would be sold and redeveloped into something new.

Atlantic City leaders looked to speed up the demolition process after pieces of Trump Plaza’s facade tore loose during heavy winds this past spring and crashed to the sidewalk. City building department officials and firefighters inspected the property and classified it as an imminent risk to public safety and a “threat to the surrounding area.”

Blockchain touted as a powerful crime fighting tool

The case for blockchain as a crimefighting, regulatory friendly choice for enterprises is getting stronger. Mayor Yang Yiwen of China’s Loudi city has cited the technology’s crimefighting capabilities as a powerful “weapon” to be used against crime.

The mayor is implementing a trial blockchain project in his city, combining computing and big data to allow telecommunication operators, banks municipal departments and utilities to share data.

At a meeting of officials from the Municipal Public Security Bureau, Yang Yiwen specifically promoted how this could be used to help fight crime and collection. Having impeccable data shared across these different organizations would allow for more accurate, deeper investigations, he said.

Chinese governments have increasingly turned to blockchain technology for all sorts of uses. Shanghai has turned to the technology to help record court hearings, making them less vulnerable to corruption. China’s been so impressed with the results of blockchain evidence that they’ve moved to make it legally binding evidence in the Supreme Court.

Although perhaps a bit more cautious about moving into the sphere, gambling regulators are sure to follow China’s lead. The immutable and easily auditable nature of blockchain technology, best exemplified by Bitcoin SV [BSV], provides a perfect window into a casino or website’s operations. Rather than have to orchestrate an audit, regulators can simply look to the blockchain to determine if all transactions through a firm are on the up and up.

That makes anti-money laundering actions so much easier to implement and prove to a regulator, making life simpler for both the operator and the regulator. And if that’s not enough for both to want it as a pervasive technology in the gambling industry, than the cost savings of BSV’s microtransactions, made possible by massively scaling block sizes, and the ability to conduct both transactions and record data, should help get operators passed the finish line.

But if you still need to know more reasons why BSV is the best choice for gambling, check out our Bitcoin for Gambling section. We have great resources that explain fully why regulators prefer blockchain technology, and all the ways Bitcoin SV can help your operation.

EQ-Connect aiming for ‘single customer view’ across multiple betting operators to help problem gamblers

The U.K. Gambling Commission is reportedly seeking a universal solution that Betting and Gaming Council (BGC) member operators could employ to give them a common view of a players risk of harm in order to better protect players who bet across multiple accounts. One potential solution has now been developed for the UKGC, operators and players by the U.K. data specialist EQ-Connect.

EQ-Connect is a behavioural analytics and technology company focused exclusively on safer gambling. Founded in 2019, it aims to collaborate with the U.K. online gambling industry to develop a cross-operator view of a player’s risk of suffering gambling related harms. The founding team of industry veterans has developed a credible solution to allow operators to use to better understand risk in a player’s cross operator gambling activity.
EQ-Connect is seeking to collaborate on a pilot project with a number of leading U.K. operators to deploy a real time platform capable of creating and delivering an aggregated, cross-operator view of any behavioural markers of problem gambling.

This new solution would enable effective, consistent and early interventions by operators when players are most at risk and wherever they choose to play. Aggregating cross-operator real time data delivers clearer insight which leads to better decisions, better interactions, and safer customers.

EQ-Connect was founded to mitigate three core issues:-

1/ How can gambling operators really protect players when they are blind to their activity on every other gambling site?

2/ How can the gambling industry protect players before their play becomes harmful and unaffordable?

3/ How can the operators protect players at exactly the moment they are losing control?

EQ-Connect is funded in part by Innovate U.K., the U.K. Government’s innovation agency. It is also a Pending Certified ‘B Corporation’ business, meaning it is well on the way to full certification in the next 12 months. Certified B Corps are a new kind of business that balances purpose and profit. Resorts World Las Vegas Gets Approval to Join Elon Musk’s Underground People-Mover Project

Resorts World Las Vegas, the $4.3 billion integrated resort currently under development on the Las Vegas Strip, last week secured approval from the Clark County Commission to become a stop in the planned Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC) Loop underground transit system.

The casino resort can now move forward with the construction of a passenger station and a tunnel that will connect to the LVCC campus via the innovative transportation system.

When complete, the new tunnel project will transport passengers via Tesla Model X, Model 3, and modified Model 3 for 16 passengers between Resorts World Las Vegas and the LVCC campus in under two minutes.

The Clark County Commission approval comes after Resorts World Las Vegas submitted land-use application and design plans in early June. The recently issued decision by the Board of Clark County Commissioners marks an important milestone toward the implementation of the project as it now moves into the permitting process.

In a statement on its official website, Resorts World Las Vegas said that it now anticipates construction of the tunnel system to begin by the end of the year. It also noted that additional details about the passenger station and tunnel will be unveiled in the coming months as start of development approaches.

Part of Larger Endeavor

The LVCC Loop is the first phase of a larger underground transit system project from The Boring Company, a venture run by billionaire tech entrepreneur Elon Musk. The system aims to provide fast underground transportation to convention and trade show delegates across the LVCC campus.

The initial two tunnels of the LVCC Loop were completed in mid-May. The are set to connect the LVCC’s newest exhibit hall with the rest of the campus. Three planned stations are set to offer access between key LVCC destinations and nearby transportation connections.

LVCC Loop is part of the planned larger Vegas Loop, which will include that original Loop and any future service extensions including stops to Strip casinos, terminals of McCarran International Airport, downtown Las Vegas, Allegiant Stadium, and at some point in future to Los Angeles.

Commenting on the milestone achieved, Resorts World Las Vegas President Scott Sibella said that they are thrilled to have received approval from the County Commission to move forward with their passenger station and tunnel plan and are “eager to take the next steps in creating an innovative transportation solution for our convention guests and visitors.”

Resorts World Las Vegas remains on track to open doors to the public in the summer of 2021. The property will feature 3,500 Hilton, LXR, and Conrad hotel rooms, a 117,000-square-foot casino with slot machines, table games, private gambling salons, a poker room, and high limit areas, an extensive food and beverage portfolio, a 222,000-square-foot pool complex, and more.

Playtech Makes First Foray in US with bet365 Launch in New Jersey

Playtech has launched online casino content with bet365 in New Jersey in a move that marked the gambling technology giant’s entry into the US iGaming market.

The recent launch has seen bet365 go live with a host of Playtech’s top performing titles, including hit classics such as Great Blue, Frankie Dettori’s Magic Seven, and White King.

Bet365 entered the New Jersey online gaming market in 2019 through a partnership with Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City. The gambling operator has been running both an online casino and a sportsbook in the Garden State since going live there.

The launch of Playtech casino content by bet365 in New Jersey marks another significant milestone in the long-term partnership between the provider and the operator. Playtech supplies casino and poker products to bet365 to other jurisdictions around the world.

Playtech has been able to roll out a selection of its online casino products in New Jersey after it obtained a transactional waiver from the state Division of Gaming Enforcement in June.

As mentioned above, the launch of Playtech content in the New Jersey iGaming market marks the company’s first foray in the US. It now looks to partner with more operators conducting iGaming activities in the state in the coming months. The company also said that it has applied for licenses in other US states where online casino-style gaming is legal.

A Significant Moment

Commenting on their New Jersey launch, Playtech Chief Operating Officer Shimon Akad said that this is a significant moment for the company and its development in the US and that they are very pleased to have taken this first step with one of their “most trusted partners.”

Mr. Akad went on to say that their recent launch in New Jersey served as a prime example of our commitment to partnering with leading operators to bring leading software services and great content to new and growing markets.”

Playtech plans to add more of its casino content to bet365’s New Jersey website in the coming weeks and months, Mr. Akad revealed.

A spokesperson for bet365 said that they are excited to be extending their partnership with Playtech to expand their content offering in the US market and that “given the range and caliber of Playtech’s content, being first to market is a real differentiator for our platform.”

Playtech this week unveiled the product of one more major partnership with a tier-one operator as part of its global growth strategy. The company has launched its Spin & Win Roulette product with partner PokerStars Casino in the Spanish iGaming market.

Playtech and its operator partner originally rolled out the Live Casino game exclusively across .com and .eu markets this past May.
