Mr. Sibella also noted that the implementation of the SYNKROS system will enable them to contact with their casino patrons in real time and provide them with “the most cutting-edge, personalized gaming experience” on the Strip.

Tom Jingoli, Executive Vice President and CCO at Konami, said that “for years, Konami’s SYNKROS has worked to deliver guest experiences at the forefront of innovation, so the chance to create new heights of engagement and entertainment for future Resorts World patrons truly resonates with our shared, enduring vision.”

Microgaming Expands Swedish Stronghold with Svenska Spel Sport & Casino Deal

In a week full of major announcements, Microgaming revealed its latest important partnership that strengthened its foothold in a big regulated market.

The company announced Thursday that its wide range of online casino content has gone live with Svenska Spel Sport & Casino, the online gambling operation of Swedish state-run operator Svenska Spel.

Established in 1997 and headquartered in Visby, Svenska Spel was up until last year one of the few state-managed Swedish companies authorized to provide gambling services on the territory of the country.

Following the reorganization of the Swedish market in January 2019, Svenska Spel launched its online gaming and sports betting division – Svenska Spel Sport & Casino – to enter Sweden’s regulated iGaming space and compete with international gambling companies for a slice of it.

After the successful completion of integration with Microgaming’s content aggregation platform, which includes hundreds of proprietary gaming titles as well as content by third-party provider partners, Svenska Spel Sport & Casino can now provide its players across Sweden with an engaging line-up.

Swedish customers of the former gambling monopoly can access Microgaming’s popular branded slots such as Game of Thrones and Lara Croft Temples and Tombs as well as a mix of new and hit classics such as Immortal Romance, Book of Oz, and Agent Jane Blonde Returns.

A Significant Market

Microgaming entered Sweden’s regulated market on January 1, 2019, the very day that the country’s new gambling law took effect. Since then, the provider has partnered a number of major operators licensed to operate in Sweden.

Just as the rest of the industry, Microgaming considers the Scandinavian nation a significant market, as it is one of Europe’s largest markets in terms of revenue generated.

Of their recent partnership with Svenska Spel, Microgaming Chief Operating Officer Andrew Clucas said that the Swedish operator is a tremendous addition to our sizeable customer base in this key strategic market”. Mr. Clucas added that they are pleased to welcome Svenska Spel Sport & Casino to their family.

Jonas Nygren, VP Casino at Svenska Spel Sport & Casino, commented that they are delighted to collaborate with Microgaming and to gain access to its portfolio of “high quality, innovative content.” The Svenska Spel official went on that the addition of Microgaming’s catalog will certainly enhance the overall gameplay experience they offer to their gambling customers.

Aside from announcing important partnerships, Microgaming is also busy preparing its newest titles for their scheduled February release. The next game to join its ever-expanding portfolio will be Seven 7’s, an online slot created by Crazy Tooth Studios exclusively for Microgaming. The slot, themed around the hidden treasures of the seven seas, is set to hit the market on February 18.

Don’t gamble on sportsbooks coming to Florida this year

Florida lawmakers are having about as much success advancing sports gambling legislation as the Miami Dolphins had moving the football this past NFL season.  Not only is it well-known that any attempt to legalize the activity without participation from the Seminole Indians could be fatal, priorities are now shifting and lawmakers have other issues on their minds.  According to some estimates, sports gambling in the Sunshine State may not come for another few years.dont-gamble-on-sportsbooks-coming-to-florida-this-year

As Casino.org points out, the Florida Legislature is only in session until March 13, after having spent a grueling two months leading the state.  However, this is an election year, which means most politicians currently holding office are going to be concentrating more on appeasing the crowd by approving a new budget and not doing anything that could cause them to lose votes come November.

This theory is supported by a survey conducted by the Tampa Bay Times.  The media outlet queried political insiders, which it identifies as being activists, political campaign staff, lobbyists, donors, etc., on whether or not they believed sports gambling legislation and other high-profile bills, would be approved this year.  Out of the 150 that were asked, 63% said that there’s virtually no chance a sports gambling bill will make through the legislative obstacle course in 2020.

Brian Edwards, a sports junkie and analyst who leads BrianEdwardsSports.com, adds to that belief, and paints an even gloomier picture.  When Casino.org asked him what he thought would happen with legislation in the state, he asserted, “It doesn’t seem like there’s any chance it’ll be legalized in time for the 2020 football season.  In fact, we might be looking at three to four years before Florida gets on board.”

There are a lot of complications in Florida when it comes to seeking approval for a life-altering bill, and the issue was made even more difficult when voters decided to take control over all gambling efforts in 2018.  A ballot entry, Amendment 3, at the November polls that year resulted in any casino expansion having to be approved by state residents.  This has thrown a monkey wrench into the legislative engine that would authorize sports gambling, with some calling the measure unconstitutional without that public vote.

There’s also an issue with certain sports gambling bills that don’t include the Seminole Indians.  The tribe has had a veritable lock on gambling in the state for decades, and is now in a fight with Florida Governor Rick DeSantis over how much money it needs to turn over to the state.  Until that issue is resolved, the smart money is on the Seminole tribe not willing to play ball with any sports gambling offering, and working to prevent it at every turn.

Perhaps it’s from too much time under the sun, but Edwards points out what most already know, but which many politicians still fail to grasp.  Legalizing sports gambling is the best way to offer consumer protection related to the practice.  Gamblers are going to gamble, regardless of whether or not the practice is legal or illegal.  By legalizing it, at least the states can provide oversight, and pick up the lost revenue at the same time.  Edwards asserts, “As more states witness all the positives and, most important, all the revenue it’s producing for states like New Jersey and Mississippi, most will eventually come around.  It’s just going to take time, and for Florida, it appears to be several years away.”

Shing Takes the Win at WSOP Circuit Potawatomi for $151,284

An argument that is often put forward in poker is that you have to keep turning up and putting yourself in the position to win to get results. One man who disproved that theory is Philip Shing, who won the WSOP Circuit tournament in Potawatomi for $151,284 at the weekend.

shing-takes-the-win-at-wsop-circuit-potawatomi-for-151284The $1,700-entry Main Event had a great turnout, and with 524 entries, saw a final table of players all shooting for a massive six-figure return on their investment. In the end it was Shing, a player with a previous WSOP Circuit ring to his name, having won $580-entry 6-Max NLHE event at WSOP Circuit Foxwoods Event back in 2015 for a little under $15,000 who did it again.

Shing’s victory came on a very busy final day where the final eight players were all from America, not uncommon in WSOP Circuit events, but not altogether usual, as we found out recently when we spoke with British poker player Arron Fletcher about his own WSOP Circuit moment in the Moroccan Sun.

This time around, it was Shing’s win, however. The first player to bust at the final table was Marcus Yofon, who entered a classic coinflip with a suite ace-king and was unable to hit the deck across the board against Shing’s pocket eights.

Shing had the momentum from that first elimination, and another player who got an early boost to their chances of the deepest of runs was Cero Zuccarello, who busted Mike Hartzheim in 7th place when his aces up held against Hartzheim’s top pair and flush draw, which came in via the ace of diamonds on the river but only gave Zuccarello a full house.

With the table now playing 6-Max, Chris Roth was next to depart when his short-stack shove with nine-seven ran into the monster hand of Zuccarello’s kings. Zuccarello, however, didn’t gain that many chips from that hand, and eventually found himself on the rail too when he was busted by kings, this time held by John Gallaher.

James Pupillo had a sense of history repeating itself when he was eliminated in fourth place, having reached exactly that place just six months earlier in the last WSOP Circuit Potawatomi event. This time, he must have felt it wasn’t to be, all-in with ace-jack only for Philip Shing’s ace-eight to spike an eight on the turn to bust his hopes.

Shing was on a roll and it didn’t end there, his next call giving him the edge heads-up after he busted John Gallaher. Shing had ace-queen and he had called at the perfect time, Gallaher’s jack-queen cut down and giving Shing a 6:1 lead going into the heads-up match.

That duel would last just one hand, Ken Donarski realising that his only chance was to try to even the stacks as soon as could, lest the blinds gobble his dream up there and then. His move was gusty, jack-eight seeing all his chips go into the middle. Shing, however, called with again-dominating ace-jack, and held with ease to grab his second WSOP Circuit ring and prove – a little like four-time WPT champion Darren Elias – that breaks between tournaments can sometimes bring out the best in any player.

As PokerNews reported, Shing’s win not only guaranteed him a career-high score of $151,284 and the WSOP Circuit Championship ring, but it also awarded him a seat into the prestigious 2020 Global Casino Championship. For the player who admitted that he only plays a couple of events a year, it marks life-changing money for no life-changing alterations to his lifestyle. Maybe that is one of the greatest aspirations for the recreational poker player to achieve in these days of GTO.

WSOP Circuit Potawatomi Final Table Results:

Place Player Prize
1st Philip Shing $151,284
2nd Ken Donarski $93,498
3rd John Gallaher $68,947
4th James Pupillo $51,484
5th Cero Zuccarello $38,937
6th Chris Roth $29,829
7th Michael Hartzheim $23,152
8th Marcus Yofon $18,209

Blueprint Invites Players on Treasure Hunt with Pirates’ Frenzy Slot

Blueprint Gaming this week released the latest addition to its slots portfolio and the new title is for all those who want a pirate’s life.

Pirates’ Frenzy has an old-schoolish feel to it, which would certainly appeal to a wide number of slots aficionados, and is packed with features that heat up action.

Action takes place right on the shore of a deserted island that guards a hidden treasure. The base game kicks off with 5 reels and 3 rows, but an additional 6th reel can appear at any point. The game features 10 paylines.

Symbols that players come across on the reels include the card royals 9-A, which act as the lowest pay symbols. They are followed by bags of coins, a bottle of every self-respecting pirate’s favorite beverage, and oranges. The higher paying symbols on the pay table include an anchor symbol and a parrot. Three or more symbols create a winning combination, except for the parrot. Just two of that symbol are needed to form a winning combo.

The pirate symbol acts as a wild. He can substitute for any other symbol on the paytable. Finally, the pirate ship serves as a scatter symbol. Three scatters on the reels activate the free spins round, during which players can win up to 50 free games.

Special Features

When three scatters hit the reels, they activate the free spins feature and award players 10 free spins. Four scatters award 15 free spins, five of the symbols grant players 20 free spins, and six scatters award 50 free spins.

During the free spins round, the scurvy pirate gathers all the coin bags that appear on the reels to boost the standard wins.

Pirates’ Frenzy is Blueprint’s first game to include the slot developer’s Power Play Bet mechanic. The new mechanic offers players the opportunity to activate an additional 6th reel for winning combinations of six of a kind and more chances to unlock the free spins mode.

Pirates’ Frenzy is a high volatility slot with an RTP of 96.12%. The game is now available across Blueprint’s global operator network. Its rollout follows the recent launch of new Blueprint titles Sweet Success Megaways and Scribes of Thebes.

Commenting on their first title to deploy the new Power Play Bet mechanic, Blueprint Director of Marketing and Relationships Jo Purvis said that the feature “means players can raise the stakes and activate an extra reel to ensure there are more ways of discovering gold coins and free spins.”

Blueprint Gaming is a UK-based game development studio that is part of Germany’s Gauselmann Group. The developer creates slots titles for online and mobile markets as well as for retail gaming terminals.
