Melco Seeks Staff for Fourth Satellite Casino in Cyprus

Melco Resorts & Entertainment has announced job opportunities for its last Cyprus Casinos (C2) satellite casino location in the Republic of Cyprus. The facility is slated to open doors in Paphos in late 2019.

Melco said in a statement to local media that it seeks 30 “capable and enthusiastic” individuals to join the C2 Paphos team. The company will hold a C2 Open Career Day on September 4 from 10 am to 3 pm local time at The Fifth Floor in Paphos.

Members of Melco’s Talent Acquisition Team will conduct interviews for gaming machines attendants, security officers, and cashiers. The successful candidates for the available vacancies will be notified within a few weeks.

The successful job applicants that will be hired as gaming machine attendants will have to attend and successfully complete a two-month training program that will include theoretical and on-the-job training. All EU citizens aged over 21 will be eligible to apply for any of the available vacancies.

C2 Paphos

Melco and Cyprus Casinos are yet to announce the opening date for the C2 Paphos satellite casino, but have said that the facility will open doors in late 2019. The venue will be located in the tourist-busy Geroskipou area on the main beach road.

The entire casino complex will occupy a 2,600-square-meter plot, with the actual building spreading across approximately 550 square meters. The satellite gambling venue will feature 50 slot machines and a Columbia Bistro. C2 Paphos will also offer around 25 dedicated parking spaces for patrons.

Commenting on the newly announced vacancies, Melco Cyprus VP Human Resources Victoria Michaelidou said that the company’s operational facilities have already created 800 jobs that offer competitive remuneration and benefits package, and that they want Cyprus residents and EU nationals to consider “C2 and Melco as a career opportunity not only locally but within the global entertainment industry.”

Cyprus’ Other Satellite Casinos

As mentioned above, C2 Paphos will be Melco’s final satellite casino to open doors in Cyprus. Including its Paphos facility, Melco will be operating a total of five venues around the tiny Mediterranean republic – a temporary casino in Limassol and four satellite facilities.

The temporary casino in Limassol opened doors in June 2018 and will remain operational until Melco’s City of Dreams Mediterranean luxury complex is ready to swing its doors open in late 2021. The gambling operator broke ground on its first integrated resort outside Asia this past spring.

Melco debuted its first two satellite casinos – one in Nicosia and the other in Larnaca – late last year. The third one, which is based in the heart of Ayia Napa, opened doors in mid-July.

It was last month again when Melco and its C2 casino brand celebrated the millionth visitor of their Cypriot casinos. Oana Georgiana Luca was announced to have been the millionth visitor to go through the doors of Cyprus Casinos. She visited C2 Limassol to help Melco and its local casino operation celebrate this important milestone.

Bet365 Launches Sports Betting Site in New Jersey

Bet365 is now live in New Jersey after strategically launching ? locally licensed website ahead of the new NFL season, which kicks off on September 5.

In a Thursday tweet, the online gambling operator said that its New Jersey website is going through a pre-live phase. The website allows US bettors to open accounts from anywhere within the nation, but they “must be physically located in the state of New Jersey” in order to be able to place bets.

The soft-launch of its New Jersey website marks bet365’s official entry into the US regulated sports betting market a year after the company first announced plans to join the country’s sports gambling frenzy.

Bet365 partnered last summer Atlantic City’s Hard Rock Hotel & Casino to launch a sports betting operation in New Jersey. The bet365 website was the second of three skins to go live under a partnership with Hard Rock and under the casino’s license from New Jersey gambling regulators.

The first skin, a Hard Rock-branded website was launched early this year through a partnership with Gaming Innovation Group. The third skin, a Unibet-branded sportsbook, was expected to go live this summer, but owner Kindred Group is yet to announce a launch date. ?he company recently went live with its Unibet online casino in New Jersey.

Bet365 Opens Office in New Jersey

It emerged earlier this year that bet365 would also open an office in New Jersey. The company signed a long-term office lease for 19,000 square feet of space at Two Greentree Center in Marlton, New Jersey. Marlton is located approximately 50 miles from Atlantic City.

Bet365’s entry into the New Jersey sports betting market is a first major step in the operator’s strategy to expand across the US gambling market.

While preparing for its New Jersey launch, bet365 announced this past April a partnership with Australian prepaid payment services provider EML Payments Limited. Under the multi-year agreement between the operator and the provider, EML’s US subsidiary would provide a bet365-branded reloadable card program in New Jersey. The deal could expand across other states.

New York could be bet365’s next US stop. The operator formed late last year “a strategic alliance” with Empire Resorts for the development and operation of a physical and online sportsbook at Resorts World Catskills in Upstate New York.

Bet365 arrives in New Jersey a bit late, but the operator’s global footprint and brand awareness will certainly help it gain traction in the local market. New Jersey’s betting space had a strong month in July, recording overall revenue of nearly $17.9 million.

The state’s ten retail sportsbooks and 14 digital betting operations handled more than $251.3 million last month, according to figures released last week by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement. Of the combined handle for the month of July, around 85% came via mobile, it also became known.

PayPal Shuts Down Services to German Online Casino Players

German gamblers will no longer be able to use their PayPal accounts for online casino gambling purposes after a recent update of the payments giant’s German-language guidelines.

News about PayPal’s updated policies regarding online gambling emerged shortly after Germany launched a crackdown on payments companies working with providers of Germany-facing online casino services.

Under PayPal’s updated guideline 9.1. Prohibited Activities, Germans will no longer be able to use the company’s services “in connection with offers that are not legal in your respective whereabouts, including some online gambling offers.” The updated guideline reads further that “if you are unsure as to whether on not a specific offer is legal in your place of residence, you must ensure that it is legal before using PayPal’s services in connection with the offer.”

The updates are set to come into effect on October 21, 2019. This means that as online casino gambling is prohibited in all but one German state, PayPal will no longer be an available payment option for online casino products.

Crackdown on the Sector

News about PayPal cutting off German online casino payments came a couple of months after the German State of Lower Saxony issued an order to an unnamed payment services provider, urging it to immediately cut ties with any internationally licensed online gambling operators targeting German customers.

The payments company was generally prohibited to do business with operators providing online casino, poker, and lottery betting products on the territory of the country, as these are prohibited under the State Treaty on Gambling. Many believe that the affected payments provider was PayPal, although that has not been confirmed yet.

Last December, major gambling group GVC Holdings announced that “PayPal won’t be available as a payment option for casino product in Germany” across all its brands.

Germany’s Gambling Regulations Mess

Germany has been trying to reorganize its market for seven years now, but the process has hit major set backs that have prevented its progress. PayPal’s recently updated policies in Germany suggest that the country’s lawmakers could this time enforce the State Treaty on Gambling after two unsuccessful attempts in the past.

Earlier this year, the heads of Germany’s 16 states signed the third version of the treaty. However, it needs to be ratified by the end of the year in order to be enforced on January 1, 2020. The treaty extends a so-called experimental phase for online sports betting from mid-2019 to mid-2021. It also removes a previous, highly-contested, cap on the number of sports betting licenses to allow the issuance of more than just licenses.

If the treaty is ratified by the end of the year, German authorities will be able to start issuing sports betting licenses to interested companies early next year. However, operators will have to shut down all their Germany-facing casino operations in order to be eligible for sports betting licenses in the country.

The state of Schleswig-Holstein is the only place in Germany where online casino gambling is legal. Previously issued online casino licenses expired earlier this year, but were reinstated in June until mid-2021, when German authorities hope a permanent gambling regulatory framework that will apply to all states will take effect.

Red Tiger Slots Now Live in Switzerland with Grand Casino Baden

Online slots provider Red Tiger has gone live in the Swiss iGaming space with Switzerland’s first online casino, the company said in a press release published this past Monday.

Red Tiger has teamed up with Grand Casino Baden’s jackpots.ch online gaming operation and platform provider Gamanza for the initial launch of 19 gaming titles.

Jackpots.ch previously operated as a social casino but was able to go live with real money gaming options following the reorganization of the Swiss online gambling market in early July. Grand Casino Baden was among the first four land-based casinos to receive approval by Swiss regulators to launch online gaming services under the new regulatory regime.

Jackpots.ch players now have access to 19 of Red Tiger’s most popular online slots, including Mystery Reels and Dragon’s Fire as well as Pirates’ Plenty, which was recently nominated for Slot of the Year at the upcoming Global Gaming Awards.

It was in April when news about Red Tiger’s entry into Switzerland’s reorganized market first emerged. The company said back then that 30 of its most popular games had been certified to be rolled out across operators licensed to run online casinos on the territory of Switzerland.

Under the new Swiss gambling law, which took effect on January 1, 2019, only the country’s land-based casinos can provide online gambling services. Foreign companies are not permitted to service Swiss customers, unless they have formed partnerships with local brick-and-mortar casinos.

Introducing Swiss Players to Red Tiger’s Title

Of their Swiss entry, Red Tiger Commercial Director Chris Looney said that they are excited to introduce their content to a new country and that they are looking forward to building a strong partnership with Grand Casino Baden and their platform provider Gamanza.

Marcel Tobler, Online Casino Leader at Grand Casino Baden, added that they are delighted to be the first operator to have gained access to Red Tiger’s games and that “having internationally renowned and commercially proven games in our arsenal is a real boost at launch.”

Grand Casino Baden’s online casino is powered by the Gamanza online gaming platform. Commenting on the launch of the jackpots.ch real money casino, Gamanza founder and CEO Magnus Lindberg said that the beginning of their partnership with Red Tiger is a “proud moment” for his company.

Mr. Lindberg added that he has no doubt Red Tiger will enjoy great success in Switzerland and “add a lot of value to our offering moving forward.”

Earlier this month, Red Tiger announced that its entire range of online slots has gone live with Scandinavian online gambling operator Paf to further cement the provider’s foothold in the region and in other regulated markets.

The online casino software supplier has also recently announced that its Daily Drop Jackpot Network paid out more than £2.5 million during its first four months, thus becoming Red Tiger’s fastest growing jackpot product. The company launched the network in April. It is available across Red Tiger’s entire range of online slots.

Hard Rock Opens Information Office in Rockford to Further Casino Bid

Hard Rock International opened this week an information office in downtown Rockford, Illinois to further its bid to build a casino resort in the city.

The informational center opened doors on Wednesday at 308 W. State Street. The opening was attended by Cheap Trick guitarist and Rockford native Rick Nielsen. To celebrate the launch of the center, Hard Rock gave out T-shirt and other branded merch to guests.

Last month, the Florida-headquartered gaming and hospitality giant announced plans to build a hotel and casino resort at the site of Rockford’s former Clock Tower Resort on East State Street near Interstate 90. Hard Rock then said that the site and its proximity to I-90 would help drive traffic to its prospective casino complex.

Aside from a casino with both table game and slot machine positions, the proposed Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Rockford would also feature a hotel as well as live music and entertainment facilities, dining outlets, and retail space, among other amenities.

Hard Rock CEO Jim Allen said last month that Rockford is a strong location for a casino due to its “history as the center point of entertainment.”

The establishment of a casino in Rockford is possible under a gambling expansion package that Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker signed recently to pave the way for the addition of up to six new casinos across the state, including Rockford and Chicago.

Hard Rock Promises Multiple New Jobs

Hard Rock said last month that if its casino proposal is approved by state gaming regulators, construction of the resort would create nearly 1,000 new jobs for local contractors. Once operational, the property would generate up to 1,200 permanent job positions.

Phase One of the resort is expected to be completed within 12 to 14 months, Mr. Allen further pointed out last month at an even announcing their plan.

At present, Hard Rock operates venues in 74 countries, including 186 Hard Rock Cafes, 241 Rock Shops, 29 hotels, and 12 casinos.

July saw another potential bidder for the Rockford casino license come forward last month. Developer Gorman & Company Inc. revealed plans to build a casino in downtown Rockford where it is currently developing Embassy Suites Hotel and Rockford Conference Center.

The developer’s Chairman, Gary Gorman, said that their plan involves developing a casino and an entertainment complex that will be linked to the hotel portion of their other property in the heart of Rockford via pedestrian walkways. According to Mr. Gorman, “casinos are most successful when part of an integrated entertainment, restaurant, and activity district, creating a critical mass.”

Interested casino developers previously had up until today to submit their proposals with the City of Rockford. Earlier this month, city officials extended the deadline to August 30, giving parties enough time to prepare and submit their applications.

Once the request for proposals process closes at the end of this month, Rockford’s evaluation team will review the applications and submit its recommendations to the City Council by September 16.

A public hearing is set for September 23 and city officials will be expected to certify the received proposals by the end of September and to file them with the Illinois Gaming Board by October 25. The state’s gambling regulator will have the final say in selecting the preferred Rockford casino license bidder.
