Vem Miller, 49, who runs a “Veterans in Politics” podcast, was arrested on  Saturday after deputies located firearms and ammo in a car he was driving. He faces two misdemeanors and initially was suspected of an assassination attempt.

As far as what took place this weekend, the allegations made by the sheriff and the deputy are false,” Miller told Las Vegas TV station KTNV. “The only thing that happened is what I do when I go to all these rallies, which is to … let police know I’m carrying, lawfully, firearms in my trunk.”

He didn’t realize gun laws in California’s Riverside County are different from those in Nevada.

Officers charged him after the magazine of his gun was in the chamber and a barrel was improperly on his gun, Miller told KTNV.

He carries the weapons because people have made death threats against him, Miller revealed.

He’s also expecting to bring a case to court in an effort to clear his name.

Miller Loves Trump

Also, Steve Sanson, a Las Vegas resident who serves as president of Veterans In Politics International, further told KTNV that, “Miller loves President Trump.”

He has canvassed for him. He is one of the canvas captains. He was invited by the Trump team to come to California,” Sanson added.

“In California, you have to separate the magazine from the weapon to be in the vehicle legally. In Nevada, the magazine can be in the weapon. That was the only thing he did wrong.”

The car Miller was driving is owned by his parents, according to Sanson. He may not have realized it was unregistered. Miller had multiple IDs in the car because he changed his name when he ran for political office, Sanson added.

Sheriff Defends Deputies

But Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco said his deputies actually may have halted an attempted assassination against Trump by apprehending Miller.

A sheriff’s deputy “found multiple passports with multiple names, multiple driver’s licenses with different names, the vehicle was unregistered, and the license plate was what we in law enforcement would recognize as one that is homemade and indicative of a group of individuals that claim to be sovereign citizens,” Bianco said in a statement.

There is absolutely no way that any of us are going to truly know what was in his head,” Bianco added. “I can tell you that none of the other probably 50,000 people that showed up for that event brought multiple passports with different names and guns. I am glad that we’re not talking about this after we shot him.”

In recent weeks, there have been two assassination attempts on Trump’s life. In one of them Trump suffered a wounded ear.

Manhunt Intensifies Former Philippine Official Harry Roque Amid POGO Scandal

Harry-Roque-on-the-run-PNP-joins-the-huntAuthorities in the Philippines have launched a nationwide manhunt for Harry Roque, former spokesperson for President Rodrigo Duterte, as part of an investigation into illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs). Roque is accused of withholding critical documents related to his involvement with Lucky South 99, a POGO hub, and his role as its alleged legal head. Cited twice for contempt by the House of Representatives, Roque’s evasion has fueled suspicions of his deeper involvement in the offshore gaming scandal. Multiple law enforcement agencies are now working together to locate Roque, who is believed to be in hiding.

The controversy centers on alleged criminal activities linked to POGOs, including online scams and human trafficking. The authorities have discovered mass graves near one such facility, intensifying the gravity of the case. Roque’s flight from justice adds further weight to suspicions regarding his ties to the operations. The Philippine National Police, alongside the National Bureau of Investigation, are fully involved in the manhunt.

Evidence Mounts Against Roque

Roque’s involvement in POGO-related crimes came to light after documents connected to him were found during a raid at Lucky South 99. The site, notorious for human trafficking and other illicit activities, has raised red flags among lawmakers, prompting a joint investigation by the Philippine House of Representatives. Roque’s connection to the facility deepened when Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) chairman Alejandro Tengco revealed that Roque pressured PAGCOR to grant licenses to questionable operations.

Despite his disappearance, Roque has remained active on social media, branding the investigation a “kangaroo court” and denying all accusations. However, lawmakers like Robert Ace Barbers and Dan Fernandez argue that Roque’s flight indicates guilt. Both have emphasized that evidence against Roque is overwhelming, especially given his refusal to cooperate with authorities.

POGO Scandal Grows

Roque is not the only high-profile figure involved in the POGO scandal. Former mayor Alice Guo, arrested earlier in Indonesia, has been extradited back to the Philippines. She faces charges of human trafficking, money laundering, and tax evasion. Another key figure, Huang Zhiyang, is still at large, reportedly hiding in Hong Kong. Authorities, including the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol), are involved in the global manhunt for Huang, underscoring the scandal’s vast scope.

The investigation into Roque and other POGO-related individuals sheds light on the broader issue of corruption and crime within the offshore gaming sector in the Philippines. As the manhunt continues, the public is encouraged to report any information that could lead to Roque’s capture.

Riley Keough Named Sole Trustee of Elvis Presley’s Former Estate

Riley Keough, the eldest of four grandchildren of Elvis Presley, was named the sole trustee of the estate of her late mother, Lisa Marie Presley. The appointment, announced on Sunday, officially settles a legal dispute between Keough and her grandmother, Priscilla Presley, who married Elvis in 1967 but divorced him four years before his 1977 death.

The appointment — approved by LA Superior Court Judge Lynn Healey Scaduto on Friday — makes Keough, 34, the sole heir to her late mother’s estate, which a Presley executive told Rolling Stone magazine in 2020 was worth between $400 and $500 million.

It also makes her the new owner of Graceland, Elvis’ former mansion in Memphis, Tenn., which Lisa Marie inherited upon her famous father’s death in 1977.

Lisa Marie, the only child of the late rock legend, was the sole beneficiary of a trust that included the Graceland and 15% of the lucrative Elvis Presley Enterprises. In 1993, she appointed her mother and then business manager, Barry Siegel, as co-trustees.

Suspicious Mind

A few weeks after Lisa Marie died suddenly in January at age 54, from what was later determined to be a small bowel obstruction caused by bariatric surgery, Priscilla filed a petition disputing a 2016 amendment to her daughter’s will. That amendment removed her and Siegel as trustees of the estate and replacing them with Lisa Marie’s four children: Riley; her 14-year-old twin half-sisters Harper and Finely Lockwood; and Benjamin Keough, who died by suicide at age 27 in 2020.

Priscilla’s attorneys claimed she only became aware of the amendment after her daughter’s death. They argued that the amendment was never delivered to their client during Lisa Marie’s lifetime. And they argued that the amendment misspelled Priscilla’s name, wasn’t witnessed or notarized, and that “Lisa Marie’s signature appears inconsistent with her usual and customary signature.”

In May, Riley, Priscilla, and Michael Lockwood — Harper and Finley’s father and Lisa Marie’s fourth husband before they divorced — privately settled their dispute, declining to reveal the specific details.

Priscilla will serve as special adviser to what is now her granddaughter’s estate, receiving a monthly stipend for her role. She will also be allowed to be buried at Graceland.

The Chesstival will be held July 7 and 8 at Resorts World. According to a press release, the event will include professional athletes, musicians, and amateur chess players “competing in a high-stakes series chess tournament.” A purse of $147,500 will be awarded to the top 16 finishers, with the winner receiving $50K, the runner-up $20K, and third and fourth place $10K each.

“The game of chess is something I’ve been passionate about since high school,” Rose, 34, said in the release. “Chess is undeniably competitive and strategic at its core, which are two characteristics I’ve carried throughout my career.”

Rose to the Occasion

Rose was named the NBA Rookie of the Year in 2009 and became the youngest player to win the NBA Most Valuable Player Award in 2011 at age 22. He recently finished his 14th NBA season, having missed 2013’s due to an ACL injury. According to a story in the New York Daily News, Rose listed founding a chess league as one of his post-retirement plans. Two others were vertical farming and buying a library.

Speaking to the media last December about his eventual retirement from basketball, Rose said he wants to “be able to walk away whenever I want to walk away and smile while I’m doing it.”

Registration for Rose’s tournament is available for $7,500 at Chesstival.com. According to the website, the price includes one seat at the tournament plus one for a spectating guest, entry for two to all events including a Zouk after-party, food and beverages at select events, and a gift bag.
