Major League Baseball Park, Oakland A’s to Join Bally’s Tropicana Las Vegas

major_league_baseball_park_oakland_as_to_join_ballys_tropicana_las_vegasBally’s Corporation and Gaming & Leisure Properties (GLPI) have announced a binding agreement with the Oakland Athletics of Major League Baseball (Oakland A’s) to construct a Major League Baseball park at Bally’s Tropicana Las Vegas.

Bally’s consummated its purchase of the gaming and other assets when GLPI and PENN transferred ownership of the non-land assets of the Tropicana Las Vegas to Bally’s for $148 million in cash paid to GLPI on September 27, 2022.

Bally’s still intends to operate a casino from the location and expand assets on other portions of the property.

2.5 Million New Visits to the Location Expected Annually

The park is expected to deliver two and a half million fans per year to the only site of its type on the Las Vegas Strip. Benefits heralded in the announcement include enhanced attraction at the site driven by increased visitations, and the ability to further develop the site in a phased manner with a financial approach based on disciplined further investment.

Additional enhancements for iconic and sponsoring brands at one of the busiest traffic intersections in America which sees over seven-million visitor impressions each month, and significant marketing database growth for Bally’s to exploit as part of its global omnichannel growth strategy.

GLPI maintained ownership of the property which it had earlier purchased and was leased back to Penn National Gaming prior to Bally’s purchasing the gaming assets, license rights, etc. GLPI will pitch in up to $175 million toward improvements and receive future rent increases based on the increased value.

Bally’s is also banking on increased footfall for the casino and other assets through the ballpark and other attractions.

The Oakland A’s or stadium authority will have about 9 acres of the 35-acre site assigned for development by Bally’s and GLPI. The stadium would hold as many as 30,000 visitors at a time.

Oakland’s Triple-A minor league team, the Aviators already calls Las Vegas home.

Bally’s Confident but Hedging its Bet

Bally’s kept an Ace in the hole to assign assets and attract other partners, and it has other parties expressing interest in a similar offering. However, it is expected the necessary approvals from the MLB Association as well as public finance and legislative agreements will all come into place to make the current plan a reality.

Bally’s President, George Papanier, said “We are honored to have been selected to partner with the Oakland Athletics on this monumental step in helping to bring Major League Baseball to the great city of Las Vegas and to be a part of the once-in-a-generation opportunity of having a professional baseball team located within a short walk of the Las Vegas Strip.

The Tropicana has been a landmark of Las Vegas for generations, and this development will enhance this iconic site for generations to come. We are committed to ensuring that the development and ballpark built in its place will become a new landmark, paying homage to the iconic history and global appeal of Las Vegas and its nearly 50 million visitors a year,” Papanier noted.

Among other comments, Peter Carlino, Chairman and CEO of Gaming & Leisure Properties said: “We are pleased to help facilitate their exciting vision for a new ballpark through our contribution of nine acres of the Tropicana site and look forward to the prominent place that the overall project will occupy in the Las Vegas skyline. The Oakland Athletics’ interest in developing a world-class Major League Baseball stadium on our site underscores its status as one of the most prime locations on the Las Vegas Strip and will enhance any future development of our remaining 26 acres.

“As the project moves forward, we also expect that Gaming & Leisure Properties will have opportunities to further invest in the various aspects of the overall project to the extent we deem that doing so will generate an attractive risk-adjusted return on our shareholders’ capital.”

Oakland A’s President Dave Kaval added: “We are excited about the potential to bring Major League Baseball to this iconic location. We are thrilled to work alongside Bally’s and Gaming & Leisure Properties, and look forward to finalizing plans to bring the Athletics to Southern Nevada.”

Las Vegas Never Forgot Tina Turner

Though Tina Turner retired from the concert stage in 2008, the R&B superstar — who died Wednesday at age 83 — was not forgotten by the town whose history intersected for decades with her own. “Tina — The Tina Turner Musical” had already been set to play Las Vegas June 6-11 at the Smith Center.

“With her music and her boundless passion for life, she enchanted millions of fans around the world and inspired the stars of tomorrow,” an update posted by Turner’s official Facebook site read. “Today, we say goodbye to a dear friend who leaves us all her greatest work: her music.”

Simply the Best

Turner — born Anna Mae Bullock in a segregated Tennessee hospital — made a career of overcoming obstacles. In addition to poverty and racism, she also survived the physical abuse and financial ruination heaped on her by Ike Turner, her 20-year musical and romantic partner, with whom she had hits with the signature songs “Proud Mary” and “River Deep, Mountain High.”

In August 1969, Ike & Tina Turner headlined the International Hotel — not in the main theater but in the 500-seat Casino Theatre. It was during this stint that Ike began using cocaine, according to a profile in Ebony magazine published following his death from a cocaine overdose on Dec. 12, 2007.

The duo also performed at Caesars Palace in May 1971, as the opening act for Johnny Mathis, and at the Las Vegas Hilton in their own residency from Dec. 13-26, 1973.

Let’s (Not) Stay Together

When Turner finally found the courage to break out of the orbit of the man who discovered her, she returned to Caesars Palace to launch a solo career from July 21 to August 2, 1977. In her 40s — an age when most female singers are relegated to the oldies concert circuit — she finally became a superstar. Her hit “What’s Love Got to Do With It” was the best-selling single of 1984, selling more than 2 million copies worldwide.

Turner shared the bill with Elton John as part of two “Millennium Concert” performances they gave Dec. 30-31, 1999 at the Thomas & Mack Center. And Turner performed three concerts at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in 2000.

It was also on the Caesars stage — during a May 2008 “Oprah Winfrey Show” taping with Cher — that Turner announced her retirement at age 68. Her 50th anniversary tour spanned 84 concerts in North America and Europe from October 2008 though May 2009.

Turner sold more than 150 million records during her career, won 12 Grammys, and was voted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice –with Ike in 1991, and on her own 30 years later. She was also honored by the Kennedy Center in 2005.

Turner died at her home in Switzerland, where she became a citizen a decade ago. According to her spokesperson, the cause of death was “a long illness” that was not identified.

Turner was predeceased by her sons, Ronnie Turner, who died in 2022 at age 62, and Craig Turner, who died in 2018 by suicide.

New York Knicks Explore Trade Options for All-Star Julius Randle

The latest trade rumor from the Big Apple suggest the New York Knicks are considering an offseason move involving All-Star forward Julius Randle and big man Karl-Anthony Towns from the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The Knicks were mentioned in trade rumors with the Philadelphia 76ers last week according to the Lowe Post podcast. The 76ers fired head coach Doc Rivers, and airwaves in Gotham quickly filled with chatter about a potential deal to bring MVP center Joel Embiid to the Knicks.

The Embiid to Knicks deal seems farfetched and half-baked, but it garnered national media attention. It also drowned out other trade rumors involving Randle, which began during the postseason and bubbled to the surface after the Knicks were knocked out of the playoffs by the Miami Heat.

The Knicks inked Randle to a four-year deal worth $117 million. The 28-year-old Randle has a player option in the 2025-26 season worth $29.5 million, and is slated to become an unrestricted free agent in 2026.

Randle Exposed in the Playoffs

The Knicks were the #5 seed and looked like a far superior team than their opponent in the first round. The Knicks picked off the #4 Cleveland Cavs in five games to advance to the Eastern Conference semifinals. They squared off against the #8 Heat who were fresh off an upset over the #1 Milwaukee Bucks. The Knicks were the betting favorite to win the series at -145 odds, and the Heat were the underdog at +120.

The Heat needed six games to defeat the Knicks, but the Knicks seemed overmatched the entire series. Point guard Jalen Brunson emerged as the Knicks true north star, while Randle’s deficiencies were exposed for a second time in the playoffs in the last three seasons. The abysmal Knicks shot 29.2% from 3-point range in the playoffs. Randle struggled from beyond the arc with a 25% success rate.

An ankle injury slowed down Randle, but he was the third-best scorer in the postseason by averaging only 16.6 points per game. That’s a huge drop off from the Knicks leading scorer (26.1 ppg) who secured a second trip to the All-Star Game in the last three seasons.

In the middle the Heat series, offseason trade rumors flared up courtesy of Stephen A. Smith. The brash ESPN pundit was not shy about his disappointment in Randle, and called for the Knicks to trade him in the offseason.

They should trade him, if you could get your hands on somebody like Karl-Anthony Towns,” said Smith on ESPN’s First Take.

It’s one thing to criticize a star player’s lethargic performance after they were eliminated from postseason contention, but it’s an entirely different story when the talking heads are demanding a trade in the middle of the conference semifinals.

Disgruntled KAT in the Twin Cities

The Minnesota Timberwolves gave up four first-round picks and a slew of role players last summer for center and defensive guru Rudy Gobert who splintered the Utah Jazz’s locker room due to his mercurial nature.

It took several years before Jazz players grew tired of Gobert’s prickly behavior, but the Timberwolves soured on Gobert before Thanksgiving.

In the previous season, the high-scoring Timberwolves were an up-and-coming and exciting team to watch. They needed a veteran force and defensive stopper if they wanted to become a serious contender, which is why the addition of Gobert made sense in theory. The Timberwolves saw an instant odds boost to win the 2022-23 NBA championship at +3500 after the Gobert trade.

In reality, the team’s chemistry was drastically altered after adding Gobert to the mix. Towns in particular could not mesh with Gobert, and the two were embroiled in a cold war in the locker room. Towns missed 53 games due a scary calf injury, and the Timberwolves finished the season with a 42-40 record.

The Timberwolves secured the #8 seed in the Western Conference playoffs, but they were eliminated in five games by the #1 Denver Nuggets. Guard Anthony Edwards averaged 31.6 points per game in the playoffs, but Towns only averaged 18.2 points and 10.2 rebounds per game while shooting 25% from 3-point range.

The Timberwolves should probably ditch Gobert to improve their chemistry, but they gave up too much of a haul in the Jazz trade so their stuck with him. It makes more sense to try to rebuild a team around Edwards and Gobert, and trade Towns to the highest bidder.

Knicks to Trade Randle for Towns and Ingram?

New Orleans Pelicans power forward Zion Williamson has never been shy about his love of Madison Square Garden, which is why Knicks fans were giddy about the possibility of adding the former #1 pick in the draft in a future trade.

Williamson and Knicks small forward RJ Barret developed a close friendship while playing at Duke together, which fueled potential trade rumors. Injuries plagued Williamson during his short career, which cooled down any potential trade talk. However, Barrett and Williamson could reunite if the Knicks trade Barret to the Pelicans. One minor trade rumor suggested the Knicks send Barrett to the Pelicans for forward Brandon Ingram.

However, the biggest rumor involves a multi-team blockbuster trade with the Knicks, Timberwolves, and Pelicans. The Knicks would acquire Towns and Ingram in a three-team trade where the Knicks send Randle and a first-round pick to the Timberwolves, and the Knicks send Barrett, guard Derrick Rose, and two first-round picks to the Pelicans. The Timberwolves would send forward Taurean Prince to the Pelicans, and the Pelicans would send former lottery pick and small forward Dyson Daniels to the Timberwolves to complete the trade.

As a kid who grew up in New Jersey, Towns rooted for the Knicks. He’d love to play for his hometown team, especially if it meant an immediate split from Gobert.

Towns made his first All-Star team in the 2017-18 season when Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau was with the Timberwolves. He also has ties to Knicks general manager Leon Rose, a former agent at CAA, who used to be Towns’ agent.

Lone Star Randle

Randle grew up in Plano, Texas where he emerged as multi-sport star in high school. A return to his home state would not be the worst landing spot for Randle, especially to the Dallas Mavs.

The Mavs are at a crossroads heading into next season after a disappointing 2022-23 campaign. Led by superstar Luka Don?i?, the Mavs advanced to the 2022 Western Conference finals last season. Don?i? was the consensus preseason favorite to win the MVP this season, and the Mavs were a popular pick to win the 2022-23 NBA championship at +2200 odds.

After a lackluster first half of the season, the Mavs gambled on a trade for guard Kyrie Irving. Despite the addition of Irving, the Mavs missed the playoffs this season with a 38-44 record. They were so bad that they bubbled the Western Conference Play-In Tournament and finished in 11th place in the west.

Irving is a free agent, and the Mavs have not expressed any interest in signing him after the Irving/Don?i? experiment failed to produce a postseason berth. The Mavs need to add another scorer to help out Don?i?, and Randle would be a much better fit with the Mavs.

The Mavs could send center/forward Christian Wood to the Knicks for Randle and backup center Isaiah Hartenstein. The Knicks would also love to get back two former players in a trade for Randle, including forwards Reggie Bullock and Tim Hardaway, Jr.

If the Knicks are unable to work out a mega-deal for Towns and Randle, the Mavs are ready to step in as a worthy and alternative trade partner.

The 2023 National Basketball Association Draft Lottery

the_2023_national_basketball_association_draft_lotteryOn Tuesday, May 16th, 2023 the National Basketball Association draft lottery day has finally arrived, and the NBA is about to find out which franchise will possess the number one overall draft pick that will enable them the chance to select Victor Wembanyama in next month’s 2023 NBA Draft.

The NBA Draft Lottery Process

The 2023 NBA draft lottery will be held on Tuesday night in Chicago, Illinois where 14 – NBA franchises will ultimately have a chance to win the number 1 overall draft selection for the 2023 NBA Draft which will be held on June 22nd, 2023. The Detroit Pistons, the Houston Rockets, and the San Antonio Spurs all have the best possibility of winning the number one overall draft pick at 14 % each.

The NBA draft lottery revolves around 14 ping – pong balls going into a machine, and the 1st – four balls that come out will be matched to the predestined NBA teams that are assigned to them determining the order of the first several picks of this year’s 2023 NBA Draft this upcoming June.

The results from Tuesday night’s NBA draft lottery will be nationally broadcasted on ESPN even though the official National Basketball Association draft lottery itself actually occurs about an hour before air time in a secured room.

Each NBA franchise will have one representative in the room as well as some league officials, lottery observers, and some major sports media outlets will also be in the set room, but no one will be allowed to leave the room or communicate with anyone else until the results are eventually displayed on tv to the general public.

The NBA draft lottery originated way back in 1985. Throughout the first 5 – years, the NBA draft lottery teams (7 in 1985 – 1988, and 9 in 1989) all had an the same or an equal chance of winning the number one overall pick.

Odds started to be weighted way back in the year of 1990. During those 33 – years, the NBA franchise with the best odds of winning the number one pick only prevailed to go on and get it just 11 – times, or 33.3 %, but the NBA team holding (or tied for) the best odds entering the NBA draft lottery won the number 1 pick 7 – times over the course of last 8 – years.

Victor Wembanyama

The now 19 – year – old Wembanyama just so happens to be a 7 – foot 3 – inch power forward / center that can do it all on the hardwood. The young phenom from France is just now finishing up his 3rd – professional basketball season overseas, and he has been the consensus number – 1 2023 NBA draft pick for quite some time now.

Victor Wembanyama has the overall size of a center, the shooting touch of a wing player, and the passing ability as well as the ball handling skills of a point guard too. He is predicted to be the best number one overall draft pick entering the NBA in quite a long time.

Victor Wembanyama’s Basketball Career Achievements, Honors, & Awards

  • Pro A Champion (2022)
  • LNB All – Star Game MVP Award Winner (2022)
  • 2 – Time LNB All – Star Selection (2021, 2022)
  • 2 – Time Pro – A Best Young Player Award Winner (2021, 2022)

BGaming Aims for the Stars with AI-Driven Images in Alien Fruit

bgaming_aims_for_the_stars_with_al_driven_images_in_alien_fruitBGaming, the in-house game studio of SOFTSWISS announced the release of one of the first online slots known to be created with AI-generated graphics. Launched on April 13, Alien Fruits joins two other AI-assisted imagery games released in April – Wild Buffalo Bonanza by NetGaming and Joker Ra from Endorphina.

Unlike the other two games, this one comes with very little background information on the development team’s interaction with the Generative AI creating the images. It’s also quite different than the other two as it presents as a chain reactor rather than a traditional slot.

Chain Reactor Game

The “grid” reel set that doesn’t actually have “reels” allows this game to appear with a screen holding 30 icons over 6 columns of 5 rows each. The top prize is 15,000x bet as well so it can pay a lot more than any of the other games in its small glass.

The narrative behind this title is one of the players joining the alien fruits on an intergalactic voyage. The simple but bright game icons including avocados, pomegranates, passion fruit, and lemons are animated as they threaten to come into play or are activated by a winning combination.

You’ll set out to find jelly letters to energize your mission.

Bonus mechanics are straightforward for this type of game with free spins and multipliers but they are also power-packed with win potential. Landing four or more scatters awards an increasing number of free spins – the symbols that trigger the free games cause the fruits to move across galaxies to escort the player into bonus mode.

The game also offers those chomping at the bit to trigger the bonus round a buy bonus feature. Changing the initial bet size will cause the price of the feature to rise.

While the graphics are bright and vibrant, there’s nothing very unique about them in terms of provenance and perhaps that is one reason BGaming didn’t rely heavily on innovative tech messaging in heralding the new release – in fact, it may have slipped by many who would be looking for just an innovation.

Huge Multipliers in the Bonus Round Spins

No matter how you arrive at the free spins, by chance or by purchasing a turn, the free spins bonus is where the biggest money is to be made.

Along the narrative line, the multiplier portal will allow coms to go on between the alien fruit and their home planet to generative multipliers ranging from 2x to 100x during the free games bonus. The most that can be won on the game is 180,000 euros. The minimum bet is €1.00 and the most that can be bet per spin is €80.00

One of the job-sharing CPOs at BGaming, Yulia Aliakseyeva said: “As a leading slots provider, we are delighted to add Alien Fruits to our portfolio of more than 100 creative titles. We are especially excited to introduce AI-generated graphics – just one example of BGaming’s innovative approach to slots development.”
